the Market

The market is held on the third Sunday of each month, from 9.30am to 1pm. Stalls are set from the start, and some of the most popular items tend to go early.

This is a small, working market, where the people behind the stalls are usually the ones who have grown, made or prepared what they sell. What you’ll find changes with the seasons and from one month to the next, depending on what is ready.

You can expect a mix of fresh produce, bread, cheese, preserves and other goods, along with a relaxed pace and a steady flow of conversation.

Refreshments are available in the Village Hall café during the market, and the village pub opens for breakfast on market mornings.

Many visitors choose to make a morning of it—wandering through the stalls, spending time in the village, or heading out for a walk nearby.

FAQs
Do I need to arrive early?

You’re welcome at any point during the morning, though some of the more popular items—particularly bread and eggs—tend to sell out earlier on.

What kind of stalls will I find?

The market brings together a changing mix of local growers, bakers, makers and producers. What’s available depends on the season and what has been prepared in the days leading up to the market.

Should I bring cash?

Many traders now accept card payments, but it’s still a good idea to bring some cash, just in case.

Is there food or drink available?

Yes. The Village Hall, Community Café is open during the market, and the village pubs (yes, there are two) serves drinks and breakfast on market mornings—both very good reasons to arrive with an appetite.

Is the market suitable for children?

Very much so. The open space and relaxed pace make it an easy place to visit with children.

Can I bring my dog?

Dogs are welcome outdoors, though we ask that they are kept under control, particularly around food stalls and busy areas.

Is everything locally produced?

As far as possible, yes. The focus of the market is on local, small-scale producers, with an emphasis on seasonal and nearby goods.

What if the weather is poor?

The market goes ahead in most conditions. Some stalls are indoors in the Village Hall, with others outside, so there is usually a place to shelter (and a strong argument for another cup of tea).
